Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio took in Chelsea’s Champions League clash against Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday evening, with sources in Italy suggesting a viewing of Brazilian schemer Willian was the reason for the trip.
The Nerazzurri have been linked with making a move for the Shakhtar Donetsk star, but could face competition from England, where Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have previously bid for the 24-year-old.
Ausilio will surely have been impressed with what he saw from Willian, as the Brazilian found the back of the net twice at Stamford Bridge, despite his side eventually losing 3-2.
The attacking midfielder’s stock has continued to rise this season, due to his performances with the Ukrainian giants, although snapping him up from the Donbass Arena outfit is a tough ask for any club.
Wealthy Shakhtar Donetsk are under no pressure to sell and the club’s coach Mircea Lucescu recently commented that Willian should be valued at the same price as Eden Hazard, whom Chelsea paid €40M for over the summer.
It remains to be seen whether Willian would be open to joining Inter if the Nerazzurri were able to agree a fee with Shakhtar Donetsk, especially in light of interest from the Premier League, which he has welcomed.
Willian has scored two goals in the Champions League this season and also provided two assists in four games, with his side currently topping their group.
