Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez has played down the prospect of further arrivals at Stamford Bridge this month, while leaving the door slightly ajar.

The Blues reacted quickly to the opening of the winter transfer window by upgrading their striking options. Out went Daniel Sturridge to Liverpool, while proven goal-getter Demba Ba landed from Newcastle.

All eyes are now on Chelsea to see if any further signings are made by the European champions.

And while Benitez did not rule out the possibility, he did insist that he is happy with the squad he can call upon.

"I am really pleased with my squad, and with my players, they are doing well and hopefully can improve", he told his club’s official site.

The Spaniard accepts though that speculation will continue to rage.

"It’s January and it’s normal that there are a lot of names in the press.

"If we have to do something we will do it, but I respect my own players and trust them."

Chelsea are in action this evening for the first leg of their League Cup semi-final tie against fellow Premier League side Swansea City.

The competition is one Benitez has never won in English football.
