Barcelona are ready to open talks with goalkeeper Victor Valdes about extending his contract, according to Catalan daily Sport.

The Spanish giants have been working to tie down their key players to new deals and recently announced that Lionel Messi, Carles Puyol and Xavi are to sign extended contracts to keep them at the Camp Nou.

Now talking with Valdes is next on the club’s list.

The shot-stopper’s current deal expires in 2014 and Barcelona are keen to secure his future.

While negotiations have not yet begun between player and club, there are not expected to be any problems in reaching an agreement.

Valdes is a product of Barcelona’s esteemed youth academy and is widely considered the second best goalkeeper in La Liga, behind Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas.

The 30-year-old has picked up a sackful of medals during his time at the Camp Nou, winning five La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys, three Champions Leagues and two FIFA Club World Cups, in addition to numerous other medals.
