Brazilian side Palmeiras have offered a contract to Argentine midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme.

According to Brazilian daily Lance, a contract which could run for three years has been presented to the former Boca Juniors man, who has not played for more than six months, since turning out for the Argentine side against Corinthians in the Copa Libertadores last July.

The 34-year-old midfielder has never played his club football in Brazil.

Indeed, Riquelme counts Boca Juniors, Barcelona and Villarreal as his former sides, in a career which has seen him turn out in his homeland and Spain.

It remains to be seen what Riquelme will make of Palmeiras’ offer and whether he is ready to return to the game.

Palmeiras were relegated from the Brazilian top flight last season, though they do have a spot in the 2013 Copa Libertadores with which to tempt Riquelme.

The Brazilian side are hoping for an answer from the midfielder by Friday.
