Brazilian giants Flamengo have agreed to loan defender Welinton to Russian side Alania Vladikavkaz for five months.

The Russian outfit will now assess Welinton and, if happy with his performances between now and the end of the season, complete a permanent deal for the defender.

The cost in that case for Alania Vladikavkaz will be €2.5M, which would net them 80% of the 23-year-old’s sporting rights.

Welinton has made 149 appearances for Flamengo since making his senior debut for the club in 2009.

The Brazilian is a product of Flamengo’s youth academy and has made appearances at international level for Brazil’s Under-20 side.

Welinton joins a team fighting relegation in Alania Vladikavkaz.

The club currently sit second bottom of the Russian Premier League and need to make up a gap of nine points to be absolutely sure of survival this season.
