New Borussia Dortmund midfielder Nuri Sahin has admitted he was nervous before making his second debut for the club in the friendly match against Mainz recently.

Sahin has joined Dortmund on loan for the second half of the season after a loan stint at Liverpool was terminated by mutual consent.

The Turkey international had been on loan at Liverpool from Real Madrid in an arrangement designed to last for the whole season.

But he struggled for playing time at Anfield and Real Madrid have agreed to send him back to his former club Dortmund, on a similar agreement.

"I was very nervous ahead of the match against Mainz", Sahin told German daily Bild.

"This is frankly quite unusual for me.

"It reminded me of my debut for Dortmund when I was 16. After five minutes the nerves turned to happiness."

Sahin played for 45 minutes of the friendly clash against Mainz, being eased back into action for the German champions.

He will be hopeful of featuring in Dortmund’s first Bundesliga match after the winter break, which sees Jurgen Klopp’s men travel to Werder Bremen on 19th January.
