Real Madrid winger Angel di Maria has pointed the finger at La Liga referees, explaining that there are some "strange decisions" being given against his side.

Di Maria saw team-mate Kaka harshly sent off for two bookable offences during Real Madrid’s 0-0 weekend draw against Osasuna, while their last two games also witnessed sendings off for Los Blancos, with Sergio Ramos shown red against Celta Vigo and Antonio Adan against Real Sociedad.

Crisis is now enveloping Real Madrid, who have fallen to 18 points behind league leaders Barcelona in La Liga, with the team and coach under the microscope.

And Di Maria believes referees may just have something to do with the side’s struggles.

"You know better than anyone that referees are confused by Madrid. Sometimes these mistakes are not failures but other things", Di Maria told a press conference.

"Sendings off I’ve seen from amongst us would not have been red cards for our opponents.

"That can happen, but sometimes I get the impression that these mistakes do not happen by chance."

La Liga now looks lost for Real Madrid, but Los Blancos could still end up winning the Champions League and Copa del Rey this season, in what would then surely be classed as a successful campaign.

Di Maria will hope that Real Madrid’s players get the benefit of the doubt a little more often from now on.
