Veteran Brazilian forward Rivaldo is extending his playing career, having signed a deal until the end of 2013 with Sao Caetano, a club in his homeland.

Rivaldo will turn out for Sao Caetano in the Sao Paulo State Championship and the Brazilian second division, in 2013.



His last club was in Angola, in the shape of Kabuscorp, and upon his departure it was felt the end of a prestigious career could be nigh for Rivaldo.

But he will play on.

"I will devote myself fully to give the best of myself on the pitch, as I have done so far", he announced via his Twitter feed.

"I hope to be an example for many people."

Rivaldo has played for some illustrious clubs in his hugely successful career, including AC Milan and Barcelona, while he enjoyed an Indian summer in Greece at Olympiacos and AEK Athens.

The Brazilian won the Ballon d’Or in 1999.
