Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has warned Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to forget about bidding for striker Edinson Cavani.

Wenger went on record yesterday as expressing his admiration for the Uruguayan and the Arsenal boss has insisted he has substantial funds to spend this month on the right player.

Arsenal could well make a big money offer for the Napoli striker.

But they will not find president De Laurentiis in a receptive mood if they do.

Indeed, the Napoli supremo insists he does not need the money, but he does need Cavani.

"For Cavani I have already been offered €55M and I said no", he was quoted as saying by Calcio Mercato.

"I need him, not the money.

"I am confident in his ability, he knows that here he is the number one in the city, and I do not think in other places or at other teams, most of us can identify with that city, jersey and fans."

Last season the 25-year-old hit an impressive 23 goals in 35 Serie A games, while this season he has even increased his scoring rate, with 16 in 17 matches so far in the current campaign for the Azzurri.

He is under contract at Napoli until 2017.
