Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel believes that it is still more than possible for the Reds to finish in the Premier League’s top four this season and suggested it is the side’s target.

Skrtel fully accepts that Liverpool have been too inconsistent this season, something reflected by their position of eighth in the standings. The Reds have also failed to beat any of the sides above them in the Premier League table, something which must surely change if Skrtel’s ambition is to be realised.

But that is something Skrtel believes is possible.

"There is a goal – to get to the top four in the English Premier League this season, which would allow our team to play in the most prestigious European club competition, the Champions League", he told Russian daily Izvestia.

"I believe that we are fully able to do that."

The Slovak centre-back does accept inconsistency has been prevalent at Anfield in the current campaign however.

"I think we lack stability", admitted Skrtel.

"At times we cannot seem to find our game. We have had a lot of good games, but in most of them we were not able to achieve a positive result."

Liverpool host Norwich City at Anfield tomorrow in a Premier League clash they will be expected to comfortably win, especially if they still harbour top four ambitions.

Skrtel is committed to the Reds for the long-term regardless of a lack of Champions League football though, having penned a new deal earlier this season.
