Federico Macheda trained with Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart today, as the German side prepare to scoop him up on loan from Manchester United.

Spanish Segunda Division outfit Elche thought they had Macheda in the bag, but Stuttgart have pushed to bring him to Germany and the player appears to have preferred playing in the Bundesliga to Spain’s second tier.

According to Kicker, with the permission of Manchester United, Macheda trained with Stuttgart earlier today, ahead of a loan move.

Stuttgart have been looking to add more striking firepower to their squad and the Italian would fit the bill.

Macheda has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford and has little chance of featuring ahead of the likes of Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez.

He has had loan spells before, at Sampdoria and QPR, though both were disappointing.

Macheda will hope for a chance to impress with Stuttgart in the Bundesliga and repay sporting director Fredi Bobic’s faith in him.
