Stoke City manager Tony Pulis has admitted defeat in his side’s bid to bring American defender Brek Shea to the Britannia Stadium.

The 22-year-old had been targeted by the Potters, but the MLS (Shea currently turns out for FC Dallas) were not keen to let him go for anything other than a lucrative fee.

And despite admitting he needs to add to his squad, Pulis has called off the chase for Shea.

"We’ve not managed to get Brek Shea over here", he told a press conference, via his club’s feed.

"That’s over", he added.

"We’ll draw a line under it now."

United States international Shea is highly rated and has been chased by English clubs in the past.

The 22-year-old has been capped 15 times for his country and would have been considered a real loss to the MLS had he moves.

Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman is sure to be delighted that the defender seems to be staying put.
