Lyon schemer Yoann Gourcuff wants to move to Atletico Madrid before the current transfer window closes, according to Spanish daily El Mundo Deportivo.

Atletico Madrid are keen to take the Frenchman to the Vicente Calderon, initially on a loan until the end of the season before deciding whether to make the move permanent.

However, such an agreement does not suit Lyon, who want Atletico Madrid to pay a loan fee of €3M for Gourcuff.

Gourcuff for his part is understood to be keen to move to Spain and his agent recently revealed that former Real Madrid star Zinedine Zidane had urged his countryman to head to Atletico Madrid, feeling the Spanish giants would be perfect for him.

The midfielder’s career has stalled at the Stade Gerland and he has been linked with an exit throughout the current transfer window.

Long-time admirer Arsene Wenger was mooted as keen to take Gourcuff to Arsenal this month, but it is Atletico Madrid which looks the most likely option for the player.

The clock is ticking though for Atletico Madrid and Lyon to come to an agreement on the France international which each is happy with.
