Tottenham Hotspur are poised to launch an assault to sign Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo before the winter transfer window slams shut.

According to Spanish daily Sport, Andre Villas-Boas men are prepared to pay €18M to snap up the Spain international striker from Los Rojiblancos and boost their striking options.

Sevilla are keen to raise funds; goalkeeper Diego Lopez has been sold to Real Madrid, while defender Federico Fazio looks set for Zenit St. Petersburg.

But selling Negredo would bring in a big chunk of cash, although it would weaken coach Unai Emery’s side significantly.

Tottenham are desperate to sign a goalscorer before the winter window closes and are working overtime to make that happen.

Now that Lewis Holtby has been secured from Schalke, the Premier League side have brought their operation to bear on handing Villas-Boas the striker to assure the team of a top four finish.

Negredo was strongly linked with Chelsea earlier this month, but the Blues bought Demba Ba from Newcastle instead.

The 27-year-old has scored nine goals in 19 La Liga games so far this season.
