Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Malaga left-back Nacho Monreal.

The 26-year-old has travelled to London, according to Spanish daily AS, and is on the brink of joining Arsene Wenger’s men before the transfer window slams shut.

The Gunners will pay a fee of €10M to sign the former Osasuna youth product, who will link up with former Malaga team-mate Santi Cazorla at the Emirates Stadium.

Wenger has been looking to add players to his team, a search which picked up urgency last night following an injury to left-back Kieran Gibbs.

Now it seems the Frenchman feels Monreal, who has nine caps at international level with Spain, is the answer to his side’s defensive woes and will also provide a crucial further option at the back.

Losing the player will be a blow for Malaga and coach Manuel Pellegrini, especially with the club still involved in the Champions League. The defender appeared in four Champions League games for Malaga this season, as well as clocking up 14 appearances in La Liga.
