Napoli sporting director Riccardo Bigon has explained that Portuguese defender Rolando chose to join the Italian side ahead of English club QPR because he wants to win things.

QPR pushed hard to sign Rolando from FC Porto but, despite agreeing a fee with the Portuguese side, could not convince the defender to head for Loftus Road.

Rolando preferred a move to Italy and Napoli, despite the fact that the terms of the offer from QPR were better for Porto and the player himself.

And Bigon is in no doubt just why Rolando has ended up in Italy.

"He is excited about this move and he refused double the money at QPR", Bigon told Radio CRC.

"Now he is in Naples for a medical and after signing the contract there will be an official announcement.

"Rolando, if he chose us, he did it because he wants to win."

QPR will not be too disappointed at having missed out on Rolando, as the Premier League side have snapped up centre-back Christopher Samba from Anzhi Makhachkala.
