Anzhi Makhachkala have made a move for FC Twente defender Douglas as they seek to replace Christopher Samba.

Guus Hiddink's men lost Samba to QPR on transfer deadline day after the Rs activated the release clause in the powerful centre-back's contract.

And that has left Anzhi Makhachkala searching for a replacement.

Twente defender Douglas has ticked all the boxes and the Dagestan giants have made an offer for the Brazilian-born player.

"Anzhi made a serious offer for my client", Douglas' spokesman Rodrigo de Silveira told Russian daily Izvestia.

"I think we need about a week to decide on the future of Douglas.

"On the one hand, the player wants to leave Holland, but on the other, he needs a new challenge. Anzhi are a serious club, for which players are global stars. It is possible that in February, Douglas will be part of the Russian team."

Douglas has received a Dutch passport and is expected to be capped by Louis van Gaal for the Oranje this year.

The 25-year-old's contract with Twente runs out at the end of the current campaign and selling him before the Russian transfer window closes would net the Dutch side at least some fee for his services.
