Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez has reassured his club’s fans that the Blues will finish in the top three of the Premier League this season.

The Blues went down to a 3-2 defeat away at Newcastle yesterday, with their penchant for conceding late goals continuing to haunt them, as Moussa Sissoko handed the Magpies victory with an injury time strike.

Chelsea are now well out of the title reckoning and are instead looking over their shoulder from their current position of third.

With Tottenham, Everton, Arsenal and Liverpool all showing signs of form, the Blues could soon find their spot in the top four under threat.

But despite lacklustre form, which has seen a draw and a defeat in the club’s last two Premier League games, a draw in the FA Cup and a draw in the second leg of the League Cup, Benitez believes his side are playing some good stuff – and there is no need for Chelsea fans to be worried.

"The character the players showed in the second half shows something is right. If we cannot control these games then it is something we have to improve, but today we had a good reaction that was positive and next week we have players that are coming back", the Spaniard told his club’s official site after the loss at St. James’ Park.

"Hopefully we can play well and win and carry on.

"Every single game we had good chances, we have played good football in the majority of them, and when we couldn’t we still had chances to win.

"The team has good team spirit and I am confident we will finish in the top three."
