Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva believes that the club have secured a "great talent" in Philippe Coutinho.

The 20-year-old Brazilian has joined countryman Lucas at Anfield after arriving from Italian giants Inter during the January transfer window.

And Lucas is expecting big things from Coutinho, a player he believes has all the qualities to excel.

"He’s a great talent – a young player but with a lot of experience – and I’m really looking forward to playing with him and helping him to settle quickly in England", the midfielder told his club’s official site.

Lucas also stresses that he will take Coutinho under his wing to help him settle into life at Liverpool as quickly as possible, mindful that doing so will surely see the Vasco da Gama youth product produce his best in a red shirt.

"He doesn’t speak much English, so I will try to be his dad for a few months and hopefully he will be okay", Lucas explained.

"I will just try to make him feel comfortable, the same way I did for Luis [Suarez] and Sebastian Coates.

"I’ve been here for a long time and it’s just what I feel I need to do and what I feel I have to do. Hopefully he will feel comfortable."

Coutinho was absent from Liverpool’s 2-2 draw away at Manchester City at the weekend, but could well be involved against West Brom on Monday night.
