Chelsea are on the verge of securing promising Chilean midfielder Cristian Cuevas, according to Chilean daily El Mercurio, and should welcome him to Stamford Bridge in June.

The 17-year-old currently turns out in his homeland for O’Higgins and has been tipped for big things, with his potential clearly shining through at the Rancagua-based club.

The English Premier League giants have been alive to Cuevas’ talents for quite some time, with the midfielder having appeared for Chile’s Under-20s on the international stage with distinction.

Now Chelsea are reported to have had a bid of $2.6M accepted by O’Higgins, with only the final few details to be ironed out before the deal can be officially completed.

Cuevas is expected to pen a four-year contract with the European champions and should arrive in London in June.

O’Higgins have been in no rush to part with the talented 17-year-old, but Chelsea appear to have convinced the Chilean outfit to bid farewell to the youngster.

Cuevas prefers to operate as an attacking midfielder, working between the lines of the opposition’s midfield and defence.

Chelsea were not the only side keen on Cuevas, with Italian Serie A club Udinese having explored the possibility of doing a deal for the starlet.
