Anzhi Makhachkala would like to re-sign Christopher Samba if they qualify for the Champions League, club director German Tkachenko has admitted.

The powerful centre-back left the Dagestan giants last month, moving to join English Premier League strugglers QPR after the London club met the release clause in his contract.

Samba has already had a positive effect at Loftus Road, although he faces a battle helping QPR to remain in the Premier League, with the club bottom of the table and seven points off safety.

Anzhi were disappointed to lose the former Blackburn Rovers player, with manager Guus Hiddink bemoaning his departure, especially as the club are battling for this season's Russian Premier League title.

But, if Anzhi could qualify for the Champions League, by finishing in the top two this season, Tkachenko hopes Samba could return.

"Chris is a guy that we all care about", the Anzhi director was quoted as saying by Voetbal Primeur.

"He is a very good defender. I think he is one of the best five defenders in Europe.

"If we are successful and in the Champions League, I dream that Samba will once again be an Anzhi player."

Were QPR to be relegated from the Premier League this season, while Anzhi qualified for next season's Champions League, the giant defender could yet be back in Russia for the start of the 2013/14 campaign.
