Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has told Brazilian left-back Andre Santos that he could still have a future at the Gunners – but it depends on the club’s summer transfer business.

Santos has headed back to his homeland to join Gremio on loan until the end of the English season and, with Arsenal having bought Spain left-back Nacho Monreal from Malaga last month, chances look to be limited for the former Fenerbahce man.

But Wenger is not calling time on Santos’ Arsenal career just yet and he is determined to see just what happens with regards to his summer shopping.

"He moved because he lost a little bit of confidence and he needs to play", Wenger explained at his morning press conference, via his club’s feed.

"Of course he can still have a future at Arsenal", he continued.

"That also depends as well on the ins and outs during the summer."

Santos joined Arsenal in the summer 2011 transfer window.

However, he struggled to make the desired impact and quickly slipped behind Kieran Gibbs in the defensive pecking order.

The defender is now looking to enjoy his spell back in Brazil with Gremio ahead of a decision on his future in the summer.
