Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has denied being interested in signing Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama, despite admitting that he feels the 21-year-old is a good player.

Mancini went to watch the Kenyan in action for Celtic against Juventus last week, the first time he has made a trip to see Wanyama play.

The Italian was impressed with what he saw, but has not placed Wanyama on his wanted list at present.

Asked about interest in Wanyama at a press conference, Mancini said via his club’s official site: "I saw him for the first time against Juventus. I have never seen him before.

"But every time that I go to watch one game, I read the next day that Manchester City want to buy this player or that player."

Pressed on whether Wanyama is someone who interests him, the Citizens’ boss said: "At the moment, no.

"I think he is a good player, but at the moment no."

Celtic snapped up Wanyama from Belgian side Beerschot in the summer of 2011, paying £900,000 to sign the defender-cum-midfielder.

His performances at Parkhead have attracted substantial interest from a number of clubs and it remains to be seen for just how much longer the Scottish champions can keep hold of the 21-year-old.
