Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris insists he knew he would become the number 1 shot-stopper at the club.

Lloris was bought by Spurs from Lyon at the end of the summer transfer window, arriving at White Hart Lane as the France number 1 and rated as the best goalkeeper in Ligue 1.

But at the start, Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas kept faith with veteran custodian Brad Friedel, with Lloris relegated to Europa League duty.

The situation has since been reversed, with the 26-year-old now Spurs’ trusted number 1 in the Premier League – and Lloris insists he knew he would win his spot.

"It was important to keep focused", he explained to Canal +.

"The coach kept faith in me.

"I knew that if the situation continued at Tottenham I’d have a problem, but I also knew that it would be a matter of weeks and that’s what happened."

Lloris is now a key part of a top four-chasing Spurs side, aiming to bring Champions League football back to White Hart Lane for next season.
