Chelsea are thought to be ready to make a player-plus-cash offer for Bayer Leverkusen’s Andre Schurrle this summer, according to German daily Bild.

Schurrle has been a core fixture in the Bundesliga club’s squad this season for Leverkusen managerial duo Sami Hyypia and Sascha Lewandowski. The 22-year-old Germany forward has appeared in all 27 league matches for the Lions this season, scoring eight goals and clocking up five assists, including a brace in Leverkusen’s 4-1 drubbing of Fortuna Dusseldorf on 30th March.

And it seems Chelsea are keen to bring Schurrle to Stamford Bridge and now, to sweeten the deal, are willing to bring Belgian playmaker Kevin De Bruyne in the bargaining table to get their man, on top of a fee of €14M.

De Bruyne, currently on loan at Werder Bremen, has been a hot topic recently, with German teams Schalke, Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund all vying for the Belgian. Leverkusen also hold an interest, while Werder Bremen would like the midfielder’s stay to be extended into next season.

But for now, Leverkusen are keeping mum on any deals they are allegedly discussing. "We don’t comment on rumours", said Leverkusen spokesperson Meinolf Sprink. "Whatever happens in the summer is irrelevant right now.

"Our focus now is to make sure we qualify for Champions League next season, nothing else."
