Arsenal and Liverpool have firmly established themselves as suitors for Marseille defender Nicolas N’Koulou.

According to Mercato 365, both English Premier League clubs have added the Cameroon stopper to their summer wanted lists as Marseille brace for an influx of bids they will find difficult to resist.

N’Koulou is rated as one of the brightest defensive prospects in world football and Marseille have been keen to keep hold of the 23-year-old, even going as far as to sacrifice Stephane Mbia and Loic Remy, over the course of this season, to balance the books and keep hold of the starlet.

But the cold hard wind of financial reality is blowing at the Stade Velodrome and it remains likely that a substantial offer for N’Koulou will be reluctantly accepted.

N’Koulou has attracted attention from a number of Europe’s top sides over the course of the last 18 months.

AC Milan admitted scouting the defender, but voiced fears that he was unaffordable given his growing stature, while Barcelona, Chelsea, Newcastle and Manchester City have also been linked with making a move for the starlet.

N’Koulou has already won 36 caps with Cameroon despite being just 23 years old.
