Ligue 1 side Marseille are pondering a swoop for Sporting Lisbon winger Diego Capel, according to French daily La Provence.

Capel, who moved to the Portuguese capital from La Liga side Sevilla in a €3.5m deal in the summer of 2011, has five goals and nine assists to his name this season.

Marseille are interested in bringing the attacking option to France and could have the Spaniard for a low price, as Sporting Lisbon are currently suffering from a financial crisis.

The French club may, however, find fierce competition in Merseyside giants Liverpool, who have also been credited with pouncing on the left-sided forward in recent months.

Capel’s contract with Sporting Lisbon is not set to expire until the end of the 2015/16 season, but only time can tell if he will see that deal through.

Capel has earned a total two caps for Spain at senior level, as well as making numerous appearances at youth level, most notably in the Under-21 side, where he made 25 appearances and scored five goals.
