Portuguese defender Ricardo Carvalho has explained that he still misses playing for his former club Chelsea.

The 35-year-old centre-back – who played for the Blues between 2004 and 2010 – was snapped up by big-spending French side Monaco on a free transfer last month.

The former Real Madrid player also believes that former Los Blancos boss Jose Mourinho’s return to Chelsea is the right move for him, as well as for the Blues.

“I keep in touch with a few players, we don’t speak too often but when you see them you have a great feeling”, he told the Blues’ official site.

“It was a special club for me and I still miss it. I spoke with [Michael] Essien about the dressing room and how it was going.

“In my time it was fantastic but there are only a few players left now from my time.”

Carvalho lifted three Premier League trophies with Chelsea in 2004/05, 2006/07 and 2009/10.

He joined Mourinho at Real Madrid in 2010 and continued winning silverware – a Copa del Rey title in 2010/11 and a La Liga title in 2011/12.

“He is a special coach for me. Last year I thought was not a happy one but this is the right move for him.

“He has the respect of everybody at Chelsea, the fans love him and the players know how he works. He is a great coach and gets results.

“Chelsea can improve their consistency in the league and I think he will do that”, Carvalho added.

The Blues finished third in the Premier League this term, with 75 points – three behind second-placed Manchester City.
