Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen have announced the signing of Hamburg enigmatic winger-cum-striker Son Heung-Min on a five-year deal, winning the race for the in-demand starlet.
The South Korean rose to fame last season, when he scored 12 goals in 34 appearances overall for Die Rothosen – a considerable feat given that Son is just 20 years of age.
"Son Heung-Min is exactly the kind of player we wanted for our young team", Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller told the club’s official site, confirming that the deal has gone through, at around the same time as Andre Schurrle was sold by the club to Chelsea.
"He is fast, explosive, technically strong and has a good shot. He is going to help us achieve our goals in the Bundesliga, the German Cup and the Champions League."

The fee Leverkusen paid for Son was left undisclosed, following the agreement made by both clubs. Regardless, speculation will arise as to just how much money was exchanged, considering that the South Korean had interest from a host of Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Manchester United, and elsewhere within the Bundesliga in the form of Borussia Dortmund.
The fact that Leverkusen won Son over the other top clubs delighted club director Wolfgang Holzhauser, who said, "We are happy that he decided it is Bayer Leverkusen where he can realise his own dreams."
