Serie A side Napoli have joined the race to sign PSV Eindhoven winger Dries Mertens, according to Dutch daily De Telegraaf.
Mertens has long been tipped to be in the crosshairs of a handful of Premier League clubs, with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur sending scouts just to see Mertens in action, while Liverpool were heavily linked with the Belgian.
The attention Mertens has gathered on himself is due to his impressive performances on the pitch during the 2012/13 campaign, where he scored 20 goals and provided 25 assists in 48 appearances for both club and country.
That feat has turned the heads of Serie A side Napoli as well, who are now believed to be conducting preliminary talks with the player ahead of a potential transfer to the Stadio San Paolo.
