Ex-Barcelona left-back Eric Abidal has lauded AS Monaco’s transfer spree during the past weeks, adding that the heavy investment that club have made so far shows their "ambition".
Monaco have spent what is believed to be an amount totalling €100m, bringing in FC Porto duo James Rodriguez and Joao Moutinho as well as Atletico Madrid’s prolific striker Radamel Falcao. They also completed a move for Real Madrid defender Ricardo Carvalho on a free transfer.
The massive splash of cash is made in an effort to fast-track Monaco’s return to the top of French football, with a bid to qualify for Champions League football also on the list of short-term goals, a drive that has become fully evident in recent weeks, says Abidal.
"[Monaco] are a major new player in French football and they have shown they have real ambition for the coming years", Abidal told Le 10 Sport.
