Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain have forwarded an offer of €40m to Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg to acquire highly-rated Belgian schemer Axel Witsel, according to Sudinfo.

The 24-year-old Belgium international is widely assumed to be one of the top priorities for PSG this summer.

Witsel started his youth career with Belgian side Standard Liege in 2004, and subsequently broke into the first team in 2006, lifting two back-to-back Belgian league titles in 2007/08 and 2008/09.

He switched to the Russian giants last summer from Benfica for a staggering fee of €40m on a five-year deal.

The versatile schemer clocked up 44 appearances last season for club and country, scoring five times, and assisting once. He has also won plaudits for his displays.

His contract at the Petrovsky Stadium runs until June 2017.

The Tramps finished second in the Russian Premier League last season, and will start their campaign in the Champions League qualifiers in the 2013/14 season.

Meanwhile, Witsel’s father has rubbished reports linking the player with the Paris outfit, and has insisted that his son has no plans to leave Zenit this summer.
