English Premier League side Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of striker Nicklas Helenius from Danish club Aalborg, on a three-year deal.

The 22-year-old Denmark international joins attacking midfielder Leandro Bacuna, defender Jores Okore and winger Aleksander Tonev – the three players already snapped up by the Villans this summer – at Villa Park.

The 6ft 5inches tall striker will ply his trade at Villa Park until 2016. He arrives having been proclaimed by UEFA the Danish Superliga Player of the Season in 2012/13.

He clocked up 33 appearances for Aalborg in the Danish top flight last season, scoring 16 times, and assisting seven times. He also helped his side finish fifth in the league.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert is now highly optimistic about the future of Helenius in the top tier of English football and has insisted that the player has all the traits to become successful.

"Nicklas is a young lad but also a full international with a good goalscoring record in Denmark and he’ll prove himself in the Premier League", Lambert told his club’s official site.

"The opportunity will be there for him, as it will be for the rest of the lads, and he has all the attributes to go and take it.

"He wants to go and make a name and a career for himself and he’s made a good start at Aalborg. It’s a case of continuing to work hard and building on that and I believe he can.

"He’s a good player and the potential is there for him to grow into the team and grow with the team. He’ll definitely be able to give the team a hand”, Lambert added.

The Villans finished 15th in the Premier League last season, with 41 points – just five points clear of the relegation zone.
