Tahiti head coach Eddy Etaeta has explained that despite the 10-0 drubbing handed to them by heavyweights Spain in the FIFA Confederations Cup last night, his side are looking at the game as a victory.
La Roja recorded the biggest victory in the history of the tournament, with Chelsea goal-poacher Fernando Torres scoring on four occasions during the game. Torres’ club team-mate Juan Mata also scored in the 66th minute.
Barcelona striker and Spain talisman David Villa scored a hat-trick, while Manchester City attacking midfielder David Silva scored a brace, in the 31st minute as well as the 89th minute of the game.
Tahiti – 2012 OFC Nations Cup winners – were knocked out of their debut senior FIFA competition in the process. They also suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat against Nigeria in their first game of the tournament.

“We knew we were going to be playing in a top-class international tournament, and even though we’ve come away with a defeat, we’re looking on the Spain game as a victory”, Etaeta told FIFA after the match.
“What’s happened to us in Brazil has come as a huge surprise because we’ve had tremendous support from the fans despite being heavily beaten.
“We’ve won the hearts of the people. Obrigado [thank you] everyone.”
Team Fenua play their final match of the competition against Uruguay – who recorded a 2-1 win against Nigeria yesterday – on Sunday.
The only goal scored by Etaeta’s side in the tournament so far came from midfielder Jonathan Tehau.
As things stand in Group B at the moment, Spain move to the top, while Uruguay move to third position, below Nigeria – who have a better goal difference.
