New Liverpool signing Simon Mignolet has explained that he has held talks with club manager Brendan Rodgers, and has insisted that the Reds boss is as ambitious as he is.

The Merseyside giants officially confirmed the signing of the Belgian custodian last night, on what is described as a “long-term contract” after he passed a medical at the club’s Melwood training ground.

The 25-year-old is now confident of adapting under the Northern Irish boss, and he has spoken about his ambition, adding that he is looking forward to winning as many games as possible with his new club.

"Back in Belgium, the goalies always train to play with the ball at their feet", Mignolet told LFC TV.

"We join in most of the time, playing more with our feet than with our hands. I’m used to this.

"I’ve spoken to him [Rodgers] a few times already and I’m very pleased. He is very ambitious, like I am.

"Let’s hope we can win a lot of games and finish as high up the table as we can”, the former Sunderland shot-stopper added.

Mignolet clocked up 40 appearances with the Black Cats last season, earning a total of 11 clean sheets as Paolo Di Canio’s side finished 17th in the English top flight, narrowly escaping the relegation zone.

He has become the first Belgian player to sign for the Reds.

Brendan Rodgers’ side finished seventh in the English Premier League in the 2012/13 season, two points below their Merseyside rivals Everton.
