Former Chelsea midfielder Jiri Jarosik has backed Jose Mourinho to bring a winning mentality back to Stamford Bridge, explaining that the Portuguese does not accept second place, and his drive for success was missing last season.

Mourinho, who bossed the Blues between 2004 and 2007, working with Jarosik in the middle of that period, has returned to the club from Real Madrid this summer with Premier League domination on his mind.

For Jarosik, who is now 35 and last played for Czech giants Sparta Prague last season, Mourinho’s return is nothing but a positive, even if Chelsea managed to win the Europa League under Rafael Benitez recently. Indeed, Mourinho will restore something missing under the Spaniard, in the midfielder’s opinion.

"First of all, I think Mourinho will return the winning spirit", Jarosik told Russian daily Izvestia.

"Yes, [last season] there were quality players, a good coach, but there was no sense that Rafael Benitez aims to win every game", he continued.

"That is the main characteristic of Jose Mourinho.

"For him, there is no second place.

"He has the spirit of a winner. This was what was lacking a little at Chelsea last season."

Mourinho has been welcomed back to Stamford Bridge with open arms, and the Portuguese is equally happy, proclaiming himself "home".
