Reading have made their third major signing of the summer by snapping up USA international Danny Williams on a four-year deal from Hoffenheim.

Midfielder Williams, who made 21 league appearances for Hoffenheim in what was a relegation battling season, has been out of action since April due to a sprained ankle.

He had a year left on his contract with Hoffenheim, but has opted to join Nigel Adkins’ side in the Championship following their exit from the top flight.

Having signed for an undisclosed fee, the 25-year-old told Reading’s official site: "I spoke to the manager yesterday when I did my medical check and he is a really great, nice guy.

"I’m looking forward to working with him, everything is perfect here. I’m excited because I see this as the next step in my career.

"I am really looking forward to the season and to try to get the club back to the Premier League."

Williams had been team-mates with current Tottenham Hotspur man Gylfi Sigurdsson when the pair were at Hoffenheim.

Williams becomes the Royals’ third signing of the summer after Wayne Bridge arrived from Brighton and former Real Madrid player Royston Drenthe signed earlier this month.

Williams added: "I heard of the interest when my agent called me, and I was excited because I heard a lot of good things about the club – especially from Gylfi because he is a good friend from Hoffenheim and a hero here!

"I would like to say to the Reading fans that I will give 100% in every game, I want to show them that I am part of this club and that I’m proud to wear this jersey.

"I will do everything I can to help this team go back to the Premier League."

Williams, who holds dual nationalities of both USA and Germany, has been capped 12 times by the United States’ senior squad.
