CSKA Moscow have denied suggestions they have conducted talks over a move for star midfielder Keisuke Honda to AC Milan, despite reports of the two clubs having a meeting.

Japan international Honda has spent nearly three-and-a-half years in the Russian capital since moving from Dutch side VVV-Venlo, and they have proved very profitable for the 27-year-old.

However, with his contract set to expire in December this year, and no extension in sight, reports had surfaced that Milan had regenerated their interest in Honda.

CSKA general director Roman Babaev, however, insisted his club’s meeting with Milan was not to sort out a move for Honda.

He told Russian daily Sport-Express: "This is speculation from journalists. To date, there have been no negotiations on [Honda].

"The other day we were talking with representatives of Milan on other issues. If they were interested in Honda, they would have told us."

CSKA’s consistent displays inside the top-three in the Russian Premier League, culminated in them winning the title last season by a two-point margin.

And Honda has contributed greatly to the cause, thanks to his 23 league games and seven goals, whilst he has also made waves in Brazil with his performances in the Confederations Cup.

Overall, Honda has attracted suitors from various quarters, including Everton, Fiorentina, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United.

The player himself has expressed a desire to be playing at a higher level, but when asked if CSKA had received any offers for Honda, Babaev added: "No. The situation has not changed."
