Roque Santa Cruz’s future appears to be in a state of perpetual limbo, but the Paraguayan is content with playing the waiting game despite interest from Malaga, Bologna and Stoke.

Santa Cruz had been heavily courted by Bundesliga side Hamburg, but eventually refused their offer on the grounds that his wife was not happy with moving to Germany.

The former Bayern Munich man had a loan spell at Malaga last season, whilst still contracted at Manchester City, and the cash-strapped club could be set for a reunion.

However, amid all this, Bologna have also come calling and, as with the Hamburg saga, Santa Cruz is prepared to wait it out rather than make a rash decision.

"I have not said no to Bologna", Santa Cruz was quoted by Corriere dello Sport as saying. "In fact, they are to my liking.

"But before accepting their proposal, I have to know what Malaga are offering. If anything, I am wondering how much I can expect Bologna to wait. I cannot expect them to wait for a long time."

Santa Cruz has spent a large part of his career with Bayern Munich, where he won several titles, before moving to England with Blackburn Rovers and then Manchester City.

However, he spent several years at clubs on loan, and was eventually released by the Citizens at the end of his contract this summer.
