Asier Illarramendi could be fast heading towards a move to Real Madrid, with Los Blancos president Florentino Perez having spoken to Real Sociedad about the deal, according to Spanish daily AS.

The Spain Under-21 star is expected to be sold to Carlo Aneclotti’s side for a reported €30m – said to be his release clause – with the deal imminent.



Sociedad club captain Xabi Prieto has lamented the potential loss of their midfield asset, by claiming that it would be near impossible to turn down a big money offer from Real Madrid.

And events have taken a fresh step forward today, with reports that Perez has had talks with the Sociedad leadership, and that the deal could be complete within the next 72 hours.

Illarramendi himself is keen to get back into pre-season training, and is hoping to be given confirmation over the identity of his future club latest by next week.

Illarramendi had been part of Spain’s successful title defence in this summer’s European Under-21 Championship, playing all five games including the final against Italy.

His exploits for Sociedad included 32 games in ;ast season’s La Liga as the club finished with a Champions League qualification berth.
