The battle for Thorgan Hazard’s signature has reached a new height with both Zulte Waregem and Genk insisting theirs is the right club to ensure regular first team football for the Chelsea starlet.

The Belgian was playing on loan at Zulte Waregem last season, with parent club Chelsea keen to see him develop in different climes.

Thorgan’s brother Eden Hazard has already become a fan favourite at Chelsea as well as a regular for Belgium’s national side with 37 caps so far.

Thorgan is a valued asset in Belgium these days with Anderlecht and Genk both hitting the deck hard to sign him, but Zulte Waregem president Willy Naessens has other ideas.

"Thorgan remains happy to be with us", Naessens was quoted by RTBF Sport as saying. "And we feel that Chelsea would also like to see him continue at Zulte Waregem.

"Chelsea want Thorgan to play as many first team games as are possible. At Zulte Waregem, Thorgan is guaranteed to hold down a place. This fact is less secure at Genk and Anderlecht."

In response, Genk manager Mario Been chose Het Laatste Nieuws to air his views on Thorgan, insisting the 20-year-old should keep in mind the bigger picture when choosing a club.

Thorgan has been capped just once by Belgium seniors, but the team are poised to make a concerted push for World Cup qualification, sitting as they do three points clear atop Group A.

"I personally had a discussion with him", Been said. "Thorgan must make an important decision knowing that there is a World Cup in 2014.

"If he wants to be part of the group that goes to the World Cup, he has to play every week. And in my opinion, that is the one reason he should choose Racing Genk."
