Sunderland’s scouts and recruitment staff have been a busy lot this summer, but manager Paolo Di Canio has urged the fans to enjoy the ride that will be next season, as the team prepare for their pre-season trip to Italy.
The former Swindon Town manager has already overseen six full signings since the end of the season, with four from overseas clubs.
It is a clear indication of the Italian’s desire to avoid the fracas that was 2012/13, as he prepares for his first full season in charge at the Stadium of Light.
The Black Cats only just avoided becoming a Championship side, as three points separated them from FA Cup winners Wigan, a feat made possible thanks to just three defeats in seven games since Di Canio’s appointment in late March.

And the former West Ham star is anticipating a better season in 2013/14, telling his club’s official site: "I can only tell the fans one thing: relax!
"We are going to build a strong team, we’ll work hard and will make a team that makes the fans proud. In Italy the players will work hard, become stronger, improve their athleticism and gain self belief."
Sunderland’s transfer window exploits will see them pursue a deal for Panathinaikos midfielder Charis Mavrias with Di Canio also aiming to complete a swoop for Le Havre defender Benjamin Mendy soon.
