Former Arsenal and Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka has sealed a return to English football by penning a one-year deal with West Brom.

Anelka spent the second half of last season with Italian champions Juventus, but did not do enough to earn a contract extension, with the Bianconeri opting to bring in Fernando Llorente and Carlos Tevez as striking options this summer.

Now Anelka is back in the Premier League – and West Brom boss Steve Clarke is delighted with the capture.

"We are missing a bit of firepower from last year – we’re trying to put that right – and to kick off with the signing of Nicolas at the start of the summer is a great boost for everyone at the club", the manager told his club’s official site.

"He’s a player I have worked with before as I was at Chelsea when they signed him.

"He’s got a great work ethic, looks after himself and is a consummate professional."

The former France striker has been well-travelled throughout his career, turning out for no less than ten clubs; West Brom will be his eleventh.
