Bayern Munich defender Daniel Van Buyten has held up the possibility of playing until he is 39 years old.

The Belgian centre-back recently signed a new deal with the Bavarians, having helped the club to win the Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League last season.

Van Buyten could have retired on top. But despite being 35 years old, he is vowing to play on.

"I haven’t though about what I will do [when I retire]", he told reporters.

"I do still want to play for at least another three or perhaps four years", he added.

Van Buyten joined Bayern Munich in 2006, switching to the club from fellow Bundesliga outfit Hamburg.

He started his career in his native Belgium with Charleroi.
