Fiorentina will be enjoying the services of Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez for the next four years after a €16m deal was agreed between the two parties..

Gomez, whose current contract with Bayern Munich runs until 2016, had already indicated he was due for a move away after four years at the club.

La Viola were the most enthusiastic suitors, but last week reports had emerged that the deal could break down over financial considerations, with an €18m offer being mooted as being in trouble.

Sporting director Daniele Prade had been wary of stretching Fiorentina’s financial strength too much in pursuit of Gomez, but it appears the deal is all but confirmed now.

Gomez’s stay with Fiorentina will be until 2017, with €4m added on to the €16m over the course of his contract.

"It was Mario Gomez’s desire to leave Bayern Munich to go to Fiorentina", said Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge to the club’s official site.

"We have now granted him his wish."

The move comes a few weeks after new Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola indicated Gomez still had a chance to impress despite an indifferent season in 2012/13.

The Germany international could only manage nine starts last season thanks to serious and successful competition from Mario Mandzukic.

He did, however, grab a brace as Bayern Munich secured the historic treble crown with a victory over Gomez’s former club Stuttgart in the DFB-Pokal.
