Barcelona have confirmed that Lionel Messi will be sidelined for up to eight weeks after tearing a muscle in his left hamstring.

The diminutive Argentine picked up the injury in his side’s 4-1 win over Real Betis yesterday and had to be substituted in the 21st minute of the match.

 


And scans have revealed that Messi has suffered a muscle tear in his left hamstring which will keep him out of action for six to eight weeks.

It is the 26-year-old’s third leg injury of the season and it means that the forward will not feature for his side nor his country for the remainder of the year.

Messi has scored 14 goals in 16 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona in the current campaign.

He will also sit out Argentina’s upcoming friendly matches against Ecuador and Bosnia-Herzegovina on November 15th and 18th respectively.
