Liverpool left-back Jose Enrique has revealed that he is yet to attain full fitness despite coming back to action in his side’s 4-0 win over Fulham on Saturday.

The Spaniard, who has been suffering from a knee problem, came on as a 61st minute substitute at Anfield in his first appearance for the club since his involvement against Crystal Palace on 5th November.

However, the 27-year-old has insisted that he is still not fully fit and revealed that he picked up the injury in the Reds’ 1-0 win over Manchester United on 1st September.

Enrique explained that he continued playing for over a month despite the injury due to lack of options in Liverpool’s left-back spot, but the defender admitted that his fitness was hampered as he was unable to train fully because of the knee problem.

But the former Newcastle United man is now hopeful about featuring regularly for his side especially in the busy run up to Christmas.

"It was good to be back but I still feel a bit stiff. It's been quite a long time away and I'm still not feeling 100 per cent”, he was quoted as saying by Liverpool’s official site.

"But we have a break again now and hopefully my knee won't give me any more problems. With Christmas coming up it's a very busy time with so many games and I want to be available.

"The problem started when I got a kick against United and had some bruising on the bone which gave me a lot of pain. When I trained for a couple of days it got tight around my knee and then I couldn't train.

"For the month after that I was playing but I was training only once a week. It has been difficult for me because, of course, you lose your fitness.

"When Aly Cissokho was back fit and the manager had more players available, we decided for me to stop and try to rest my knee."
