Chelsea have joined the race for Paris Saint-Germain's creative midfielder Javier Pastore, while Blues boss Jose Mourinho also admires the Argentine's team-mate, defensive midfielder Blaise Matuidi.

Pastore has attracted attention from Liverpool of late, while Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger recently defended the former Palermo player from PSG boo boys, dubbing him "class".

Pastore has struggled to cement a regular spot under Laurent Blanc at the Parc des Princes this term, while he has been severely criticised for his performances in some quarters.

Now, according to Tutto Mercato, Chelsea could be poised to come to Pastore's rescue, with the Argentine firmly an option for the Blues.

Indeed, Mourinho is poised to decide over the next few weeks whether he wants to firm up his interest in the Argentine, along with PSG team-mate Blaise Matuidi.

Matuidi's contract with PSG is due to expire next summer, with no extension having been penned by the 26-year-old yet.

The defensive midfielder has made 17 appearances for the French champions so far this season, while Pastore has just eight under his belt.
