Manchester United defender Phil Jones believes that rival fans and clubs are willing the Red Devils to fail because they are hated for their success.

Jones helped Manchester United record a valuable 1-0 Premier League win over Arsenal at the weekend, extending the side's unbeaten record to nine-games and putting them fifth in the league standings heading into the international break.

And Jones was delighted for David Moyes' men to answer their critics in style, with the former Blackburn Rovers player giving an insight into the thinking at Old Trafford.

"People want us to fail because we have won the league so many times", Jones was quoted as saying by his club's official site.

"United won the league long before I was here. Everyone hates the best clubs, it is as simple as that.

"We enjoy that and relish the test we get thrown at us week in, week out."

Manchester United are next in action after the international break when they visit newly-promoted Cardiff City.

Following that is a return to Champions League football for the Red Devils, with Germany and Bayer Leverkusen on the menu.
