The English Football Association has confirmed that Manchester United pair Michael Carrick and Danny Welbeck have withdrawn from Roy Hodgson's England squad.

England are due to face Chile on Friday and Germany on Tuesday in a double-friendly batch as they step up their preparations for the 2014 World Cup.

Hodgson, who has decided not to call up any replacements, will now have to make do without the pair.

Carrick has been suffering with an Achilles injury, however he played 90 minutes against Arsenal at the weekend.

Welbeck though has not played since October due to a knee injury.

Another Manchester United player has also withdrawn from international duty today, with Robin van Persie ruling himself out of the Holland squad due to an injury complaint.
